Zippers


A zipper consists of two rows of metal or plastic plates with teeth on one side and on the other notches. These pictures may be merged or separated by a pull tab on a locking plate. When closing the zipper teeth are always on the top of the opposite plates hooked. The notches in the following pictures to keep the zipper closed.

The zipper was invented by Whitcomb Judson in 1893, although the design of the modern zipper of his son, Gideon Sundback.

Today, most zippers (a half) made in China.

The (family) name 'zipper' is older than the zipper, there are entries from before 1700.
